As of 6th March 2021, the government has launched a programme that allows businesses of all sizes to register for free Covid-19 testing kits to be used in the workplace, for staff who cannot work from home.
Businesses must register on the Gov.uk website by 31st March 2021 to receive the rapid testing kits which will remain free until the end of June 2021.
Over 14,000 businesses have registered their interest in offering rapid testing, with many already sending test kits out to employees. 1 in 3 people with Covid-19 do not show symptoms which means they could be spreading the virus without knowing. Rapid testing kits can detect a positive result in under 30 minutes which greatly reduces the chances of spreading the virus throughout the workplace.
Dr Susan Hopkins, COVID-19 Strategic Response Director to PHE and Chief Medical Adviser to NHS Test and Trace, has said:
“Combined with other protective measures, rapid testing is a vital tool to help us lower infection rates and ensure that they stay low. If you’re offered a test, please do take it.”
